Multi-segmented Tension Roll® Transducer

Multi-segmented Tension Roll® Transducer

(ROCHESTER, NH, USA—January 21, 2008) While the converting applications for an idler roller that can measure web tension at multiple points across its face may be specialized, they do exist. Dover Flexo Electronics, Inc (DFE) has noted an increased interest in such applications from film converters as they employ more diligent quality inspection of incoming roll stock.

DFE’s new SR Segmented Tension Roll transducer is being shown in a system demonstration at customer sites and tradeshows to display separate tension readings from several roll segments along the same idler roll.

Multi-segmented Tension Roll® Transducer

The SR Segmented Tension Roll is a concept extension of DFE’s popular Tension Roll® Transducer, a patented, robust dead-shaft idler roll with integrated tension sensors in its roll ends.

The SR Segmented Tension Roll allows converters to measure tension on multiple individual web strands in a slitting and rewinding environment, or at multiple points across the width of a single web when converting or rewinding film. If identified early enough, minor gauge band variations across a substrate can sometimes be compensated for in process. By monitoring and logging the web tension profile of supplied film stock before it enters a converting process, the processor insures that the identified substrate defects do not translate into defective finished output.

Those interested are encouraged to contact DFE for more information or to see a personalized demonstration. Product information is also available from DFE at http://www.dfe.com/trn_seg-tr.html
